The Most Amazing Fashion Moments Of 2015

Zoolander’s Catwalk Invasion

In a move we did not see coming, the Valentino AW15 catwalk was invaded by none other than Derek Zoolander and Hansel, or Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson as they’re known in real life. Yep, as part of their filming for Zoolander 2, the comedy duo sent fashion’s steeliest editors (including Anna Wintour herself) into meltdown, as everyone clamoured for the best Insta-pic of the moment. In case you missed it, word is that the stunt will feature in the new film, out in February. That’s one epic comeback.

The Met Gala Memes That Went Viral

As they arrived at the fashion parade that is the Met Gala, both SJP and Rihanna managed to nearly break the internet. Or, at least, the memes that poked fun of their outfits did. Adhering to the theme of China: Through The Looking Glass, Sarah Jessica Parker’s elaborate headdress was compared to absolutely anything flame-related, including the fire emoji and Star Wars’ Darth Maul. Meanwhile, Rihanna’s bright yellow couture dress complete with gargantuan train was transformed into a huge pizza as well as a fried egg for the purposes of online comedy. Let’s hope they saw the funny side.

Taylor Gave Us #GirlSquadGoals

Swifty’s girl gang might be scattered all over the world, but when they come together they sure do make an impression. And that’s exactly what happened when they invaded the stage during Taylor’s concert at the British Summertime Festival in London. Cara Delevingne waved a Union Jack flag proudly above her head as she led Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Karlie Kloss, Martha Hunt and Serena Williams onto the stage to join Taylor, who wowed in a crystal encrusted bodysuit. Suddenly makes our own girly nights out look a little underwhelming…

Coach’s Unlikely Campaign Stars

Forget celebrity endorsements; this year it was all about their dogs instead. That’s right, Coach chose some of the most pampered pooches in the world to front its latest campaign, including Miranda Kerr’s pup Frankie and Lady Gaga’s French Bulldog, Miss Asia Kinney. Photographed by the legendary Steven Meisel, the little pooches managed to show off the brand’s arm candy with aplomb. Is it possible to be jealous of a dog? Because we are.

That Beyonce Dress

We know she’s not exactly the shy and retiring type, but even Beyonce managed to shock with her risqué Met Gala gown. Arriving a whole hour late (and reportedly because she changed her outfit en route) Queen Bey chose a bespoke Givenchy Haute Couture gown that left very little to the imagination. Scattered with multi-coloured gems and not a lot else, Bey had the red carpet entirely to herself thanks to her lateness, meaning that nobody could possibly upstage her. Not that that was really ever going to happen, anyway. Sorry Kim K.

The World’s Most Wanted Jacket

It was H&M’s most frenzy-inducing designer collaboration yet. Balmania swept the globe, causing stampedes, hysteria and a whole lot of impulse buying. But there was one item in particular that everyone wanted to get their hands on, and it was that pearl-encrusted jacket. As seen on Gigi Hadid in the campaign, Alessandra Ambrosio on the runway and Rita Ora on the red carpet, crazed shoppers were desperate to get their hands on this cover up, which cost £299.99. For those who didn’t, a few of the jackets ended up on eBay, where they were snapped up for, er, £3,500. That’s about the same cost as Balmain’s mainline, then.

Lupita Ruled The Red Carpet

Just when we thought we’d recovered from Lupita Nyong’o’s ultimate princess moment in her now infamous powder blue Prada gown at 2014’s Oscars, the actress managed to trump herself at the Cannes Film Festival this year. Arriving in a custom made, green pleated Gucci gown embellished with crystal appliqué flowers, Lupita twirled her way down the red carpet, much to the delight of the hundreds of photographers clamouring to take her picture. Now that’s what we call an entrance.

Givenchy’s Gems Caused A Stir

When Ricardo Tisci sent his model army down the AW15 catwalk with septum piercings, he launched one of the biggest (and most unexpected) jewellery trends of recent years, but for his next offering for spring/summer, he went one step further.  Enlisting legendary make-up artist Pat Mcgrath, the two worked together to dream up some seriously elaborate face masks. Using layers of jewels, each one was painstakingly glued to each model’s face in a process that took over five hours. Suddenly our own beauty routine looks positively speedy…

Chanel Does It Again

The Couture Casino

The world’s most expensive clothes call for a catwalk to match, and that’s exactly what Karl Lagerfeld gave his AW15 Haute Couture collection in the form of a Chanel-branded casino constructed inside the Grand Palais. Kristen Stewart, Julianne Moore and Lily Rose Depp opened the show, before Kendall Jenner appeared as a very modern ‘bride’, dressed in a white wedding suit complete with acres of tulle train. It was a gamble that definitely paid off.

Come Fly With Karl

Just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, we were introduced to the most glamorous airport anyone’s ever seen. Yup, spring 2016’s catwalk was an entire terminal, featuring the best dressed ‘passengers’ in the world. Models wheeled suitcases as they sauntered past the FROW, who were all seated on actual airport chairs. Cara Delevingne may not have walked, but she joined Karl for his bow, wrapping up yet another epic show. And as always, we were introduced to things we never knew we needed, including light-up Velcro sandals. Only Chanel.

The New Poster Girl

When Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis’s daughter, Lily-Rose Depp stepped out with her mum at Chanel’s Salzburg show, a brand new icon was born. She may only be 16, but with her flawless complexion and those cheekbones, she quickly became fashion’s latest crush. And it was only a matter of time before she bagged her first official Chanel campaign, which was for the label’s Pearl eyewear range. A muse to Karl Lagerfeld at just 16? Pretty impressive.

Ab FabStorms The BFAs

It was the comeback we’d all been waiting for, and it didn’t disappoint. Ab Fab’s Edina and Patsy (or Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley, as they’re also known) hit the British Fashion Awards in their own inimitable style, swigging champagne as they schmoozed with the A-list before presenting Stella McCartney with the award for Best Brand. Meanwhile, Brit girl Jourdan Dunn made us proud as she picked up the Model of the Year Award, presented to her by Olivier Rousteing. The two took to the red carpet to pull a series of playful poses in celebration. What a night!

Battle Of The Best Dressed Toddlers

It might usually be their super-famous parents being scrutinized for their wardrobe choices, but in 2015, the biggest fash-off was between Harper Beckham and North West. With designer wares that put most of our own threads to shame, the two toddlers showed off one fabulous outfit after another. Harper has inherited her mummy’s classic style, with some of her fave picks including Chloe Chelsea boots, floppy hats (tres chic) and girly frocks. Not to mention Burberry trench coats for her turn on the brand’s FROW, natch. North West, in contrast, has a Balmain booty big enough to rival her mum Kim, including bespoke military jackets she likes to wear with her tutus. She also stole our hearts when she was dressed like Kanye’s own mini-me, in a baggy jumper, black jeans and boots. Too cute.

Kate Wows The Crowds

The entire nation was astounded as the Duchess of Cambridge emerged to greet the world’s press just nine hours after giving birth to Princess Charlotte. Stepping out of the hospital with William by her side and her new baby in her arms, the first thing we noticed wasn’t Kate’s glossy curls or flawless make-up, but the fact that she was wearing heels. Pairing her go-to courts with her Jenny Packham dress, Kate won the respect (and disbelief) of every woman who’s ever given birth. And everyone else, for that matter. And of course, she sent sales of her yellow frock soaring, prompting websites to crash in the process. We bow down.

Dolce’s Ode To Motherhood

In typically Italian fashion, Dolce and Gabbana dedicated their AW15 show to the number one lady in their lives; their mums. And in celebration of the ultimate matriarch, the catwalk resembled one big, beautiful family portrait as the models walked hand-in-hand with their mini-me counterparts. One super, Bianca Balti, even strutted her stuff despite being heavily pregnant. Imagine having walked a Dolce runway before you’d even been born. Now that’s impressive.
