Ben Affleck has addressed ex-wife Jennifer Garner’s interview about their failed marriage for the first time.
Jen made headlines when she opened up about their very public split to Vanity Fair last month, in which she addressed the rumours of his affair and also made our hearts break a little when she said this:
‘He’s the most brilliant person in any room, the most charismatic, the most generous. He’s just a complicated guy. I always say, “When his sun shines on you, you feel it.” But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold. He can cast quite a shadow.’
And now, her Hollywood ex has made has responded to Jen’s interview, telling The New York Times that inititally, he wasn’t willing to discuss their relationship for fear of their children reading it.
‘It ends up being in the record somewhere, in the great miasma of junk on the internet’, he said.
But, he did go on to talk about his ex-wife’s quotes, and actually, said that he was feeling pretty supportive of the whole thing.
‘She felt like she wanted to discuss it and get it out there and get it over with, so she could say, “Look, I already talked about it – I don’t want to do it again”‘, Ben said. ‘It’s fine. She’s allowed to talk about it.’
The Batman Vs Superman star then added that him and Garner, who share five children together, are ‘on great terms’.
‘Jen’s great. She’s a great person,’ he said. ‘We’re on great terms. I just saw her this morning, so that’s the reality that I live in.’
In her interview, Jennifer also praised her ex and said that despite their differences, she wouldn’t take their marriage back.
‘It was a real marriage, it wasn’t for the cameras’, she said. ‘And it was a huge priority for me to stay in it. And that did not work… I didn’t marry the big fat movie star; I married him. And I would go back and remake that decision. I ran down the beach to him, and I would again.’
