There’s a lot more to The X Factor than contestants singing, judges’ outfits and Caroline Flack and Olly Murs’ banter.
Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes?! You may be surprised…
There’s actually a whole glam squad waiting in the wings to ensure the finalists look polished at all times. And they definitely have their work cut out.
Hairstylist Aaron Carlo – who also works with Little Mix – tells Femail: ‘Being backstage is manic!
‘So many different departments having to work together and communicate while working around rehearsals is hard work but it just seems to work, because everyone’s so good at their job.
‘Simon [Cowell] is very direct, which is great. I look everywhere for inspiration, from magazines, catwalks, my own work and celebrity red carpets.’
Stylist Gemma Sheppard has a pretty difficult job at times. She adds: ‘This show throws up some amazing challenges.
‘This week, for example, I had to find these very specific dance lean-boots for Louisa [Johnson]’s Billy Jean performance.
‘We didn’t have the time to make them so I made a mercy call to the wardrobe department at Thriller Live and they amazingly agreed for us to borrow them.
‘One of my assistants dashed to pick them up on Saturday afternoon.’ Impressive.
But what about beauty routines? As expected, there’s nothing simple about that either.
Make-up Julia Carta says: ‘We do have a tough schedule on a Saturday and Sunday so preparation is key to getting the contestants skin ready.
‘On a weekly basis we give all contestants a Red Carpet facial from Beautylab London.
‘To keep the skin crystal clear they take LQ Liquid Health Hair, Skin & Nails daily as beauty is from within as well. All contestants have a winter TV tan from Beautylab London to give them a natural healthy glow.
‘The rest is clever illuminating HD makeup. Their brows are threaded and shaped by Love Beauty and they have manicures with Cat Taylor and team using Sensationail, Nina Ultra Pro and Nails Inc Pro.’
Erm. We may be auditioning next year…
