Balmain’s Model Army Eats Junkfood… Without Kendall

Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing has unveiled his model army for SS15, and guess what? Kendall’s nowhere to be seen! Yep, Olivier posted a series of the campaign shots to his Instagram page- captioning them with #TheGAMEison, #readytoplay and #balmainarmy- featuring the supermodel likes of Joan Smalls, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Adriana Lima and former Chanel girl Isabeli Fontana.

The campaign shows the new army dressed top-to-toe in Balmian’s fierce catwalk looks (obv), playing video games, sharing hamburgers and having what looks like a cat fight. Yes, really. While our own girlie nights in don’t quite look like this, we’re enjoying it nonetheless. But what happened to Kendall?

The model Kardashian counts Olivier among her closest friends, and was a prominent feature on the Balmain catwalk for SS15. But as the designer himself told, “If I took Kendall, it would be in a different concept with different girls. And obviously she’s my friend, but for this campaign I wanted to have Adriana with Rosiewith Isabeli with Joan…We didn’t feel like we were shooting the campaign, it was like a big party or big reunion.”

So why did Olivier choose these girls to be part of his army? “They’re all strong. They are powerful. I wanted to show their power, because obviously they are really sexy and we all know them for their sexiness and the glamour…You can really feel the army, you can feel the battle. You can feel the power of the girls, and we don’t normally see that in a campaign.”

Legendary photographer Mario Sorrenti was behind the camera, capturing the supers in their Balmain finest. And even without Kendall, we’re deffo obsessed with the new images, which we can’t stop looking at on Instagram. In fact, we’re getting ready to get our army on, because one of Olivier’s snaps is captioned with ‘YOU WANNA JOIN?’. I think we all know the answer to that…
