Ariana Grande has taken to Twitter to share her views on sisterhood. And we have to say: right on, girl.
The 21-year-old says she is sick of always being talked about in terms of the men in her life, and feels that everyone should be viewed in terms of their individuality. She states: “I am tired of living in a world where women are mostly referred to as a man’s past, present or future PROPERTY/POSSESSION.”
“I do not. Belong. To anyone. But myself.”
We hear you.
The star’s speech was met with over 60 thousand retweets (at last count) and has been supported by close celebrity pal Rita Ora, who also shared her views on Twitter, stating: “I couldn’t agree with you more.”
Taylor Swift was also quick to publically back Ariana’s powerful message, tweeting: “@ArianaGrande I’m so proud of you, always. But especially today. ‘She will need her sisterhood.'”
It was not long ago that the songstress was linked to One Direction’s Niall Horan, after reportedly spending a lot of time with him in London.
The star made a point of hitting out against any rumours surrounding her love life, telling The Sun On Sunday: “A girl can be friends with someone with a d**k and not hop on it. I’m tired of needing to be linked to a guy. I’m not Big Sean’s ex. I’m not Niall’s new possible girl. I’m Ariana Grande.”
Her public letter also touched on the subject, as she confirmed: “What I meant when I said what I said about not being Sean’s ex is that I am tired of living in a world where women are mostly referred to as a man’s past, present or future.”
We love the positive message that Ariana is sharing with her fans.
The Bang Bang singer wants to encourage everyone to be who they are, without fear of being labelled or judged for it. She went on: “Being empowered is not the same as being a b***h… Having SOMETHING TO SAY… is not the same as HAVING A BAD ATTITUDE…”
Speaking of her background, the starlet revealed: “I come from a long bloodline of female activists…”
After breaking up, very publically, with ex-partner Big Sean, AG is enjoying being on her own. A strong, independent woman. She said: “I have never felt more present, grounded and satisfied. I’ve never laughed harder or had more fun or enjoyed my life more.”
You don’t need to be defined by a partner. We all know this to be true, but sometimes it’s pretty empowering to be reminded, don’t you think?
“I want the people reading this to know they’re MORE THAN ENOUGH on their own…”
She concluded with a quote from Gloria Steinem: “any woman who chooses to behave like a full human being should be warned that the armies of the status quo will treat her as something of a dirty joke… She will need her sisterhood.”
Can we get a “hell yeah”?
