The now-iconic heels are a mainstay on stylistas

Are These The Most Popular Designer Shoes Ever?

With multiple collections a year and more It-items that you can begin to keep track of, most must-have items go out as quickly as they come – but every once in a while something special comes along with serious staying power and that’s where Valentino’s now-iconic Rockstud heels come in.

Just in case you hadn’t noticed, they’re a pretty big deal. Five years on from when they first infiltrated the fashion consciousness, they’re still a firm fixture on the fashion set at the shows, championed by It-girls like Alexa Chung and Dakota Fanning, not to mention our favourite bloggers. That said, even we may have underestimated just how big they are.

Talking to, the label’s creative directors Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli revealed that sales have double since the shoe’s introduction five years ago and revenue in 2014 was up 36 per cent, half of which is attributed to accessories.

Originally introduced in baby pink, beige and black, you can now get them in just about every colour and print you can imagine. In fact, they even released rainbow versions this summer and best part is that they have a whole loads of remixes in the pipleline too.

“When we started, we were obsessed—and are also obsessed now—to create a style. We never think to do something only for one season. We want to speak a language that speaks about style, and that becomes timeless,” Chiuri said. “Rockstud, camouflage—everything we’re doing is because we want to create a world, elements that you recognize as the Valentino style.”

Chockers, £25

At £620, they’re not exactly cheap but the great news is that just about every high street stalwart has created their own versions. With purse-friendly options in everything from muted tones to striking shades, there’s no reason we all can’t get in on the Rockstud action!
