Alexa Chung Brings Back The ’90s In A Chinese Dragon Dress

Instagram: @ChungAlexa

Alexa Chung has just taken us straight back to the ’90s with her unusual choice of birthday outfit.

The British model switched her usual look up in a big way by choosing to rock the retro Oriental-inspired trend we thought we’d all left firmly in the past – the Chinese dragon dress.

Normally seen teamed with chunky white Spice Girl platforms and a chopsticks bun, this silky skintight kimono-style mini was the only thing to be seen in at the school disco and was a style staple of cool girls nationwide until well into the noughties.

(We blame Destiny’s Child and Rachel from Friends.)

And now, style queen Alexa has decided that along with crop tops, chokers and mom jeans, it ought to be making a comeback.

Stepping out in New York for a girly birthday dinner (and a spot of karaoke) with BFFs Poppy Delevingne and model Harley Newton, Alexa wore a long silky black and gold kimono dress with one super sexy twist – thigh high splits either side, which revealed a pair of RiRi-style suspenders.

Chung finished off her look with a dark crimson lip and parted her new fringe in the middle, pinning the side down while she enjoyed their Chinese dim sum feast.

We can’t yet find any silky dragon dresses on the high street for you to shop.

Bu we are talking about ultimate trendsetter Alexa here, so don’t be surprised if you see them suddenly popping up on ASOS in the not so distant future…
