Zendaya has made a name for herself for taking on pretty much every hairstyle (and trend) under the sun. And she’s about to explain why.
Whether she’s rocking braids, a fringed bob wig or long, tumbling curls, the 19-year-old never fails to look seriously striking.
And when it comes to her red carpet looks, we never know what she’s going to pull out of the bag. Girly Marc Jacobs dress? Boyish tuxedo? She’s donned it all.
But the former Disney star isn’t mixing up her looks by accident. In fact, it’s a very purposeful choice to constantly evolve her style.
Speaking to Flare magazine, Zendaya explains.
‘A big reason I play with beauty and hair is that it’s important to show different kinds of beauty when I’m on the red carpet’, the model said.
‘I don’t want to be just one-dimensional or relatable to one type of person. I want a different woman to be like, That’s like me! That’s like my hair! or That’s so my style!’
She continued: ‘If I went out there and was just like, pretty, all the time, doing the same thing, it can be cool, but you’re also catering to one type of person, and what about all those other kinds of beautiful out there?’
We LOVE this statement. Also, who wouldn’t love the chance to transform themselves into a different fierce fashionista every night?!
This isn’t the first time we’ve been impressed with Zendaya’s actions – after all, she’s all about using her voice for a good cause.
Championing diversity, she recently got her own Barbie, who rocks her famous Oscars look – a white full-length dress, with long dreadlocks.
And after the doll was revealed, Zendaya took to social media to tell the world why it was so important. ‘When I was little I couldn’t find a Barbie that looked like me, my… How times have changed’, she wrote.
Our girl crush just got a whole lot mightier…
