Whether we’re trawling through her Instagram page – which has racked up a whopping 13.8 million followers to date – or looking through her memorable red carpet appearances, there’s one thing you’re bound to be drawn to.
Beauty website Mane Addicts knows this only too well, citing Zendaya’s luscious mane as a ‘muse’, they have teamed up with her hairstylist Larry Sims for a photoshoot with the star.
Together, they recreated some of the most iconic hair looks through time. And, we have to say, she looks seriously striking.
Speaking of her personal style, the actress and singer revealed to Mane Addicts: ‘I’ve taken fashion risks since I was really young… I’ve always been into dressing different and doing different things.’
When asked about her bold and daring red carpet looks, she’s quick to appreciate her stylist and creative director Law Roach: ‘When I do my hair, it’s usually a collaboration with me and Law.’
‘He comes up with the idea. It all comes from his brain, [but] sometimes he comes up with an idea and then we all just talk about it, and it turns into something else.’
The shoot was set against a series of pop colour and printed wallpaper backdrops, with Zendaya playing around with a series of different looks.
Larry explained: ‘The theme of the shoot felt like going through different decades of beauty.’
Speaking of one of the looks, he said: ‘Inspired by Cher, we wanted to create the bone straight, parted down the middle, chic vibe. It could be described as a modern day Janis Joplin. We kind of did a version of this at the AMA’s a few years back when she wore an all-white ensemble, but we haven’t revisited it for quite a few years.’
Another look was ‘inspired by shapes and texture.’
He said: ‘I wanted to do a twist on what an afro looks like…[and Zendaya] is a perfect canvas.’
‘I didn’t use any products except some shine spray and I cut the hair with clippers. For this kind of shape, it needed to be really defined, and I wouldn’t have been able to sculpt it the same way with shears. There’s a symmetry you can create really well to get those perfect straight lines with clippers.’
The shots, by photographer Andrew Stiles, are beautiful.
The series certainly shows that Zendaya can pull of any look.
