Inside our Beauty Editors beauty bag

What’s Really Inside Our Beauty Ed’s Handbag…

As Beauty Editor of a seriously fast paced weekly magazine, I have the pleasure of trailing and testing hundreds of new products every year. It’s a hard task, but someone has to do it. That means my beauty bag never remains the same for longer than a week. There’s always a new mascara with genius new technology I’m desperate to try, a brand new bronzing brush that promises to be better than the rest, and a lipstick shade that’s got my name written all over it.

But at the moment my beauty bag is pretty complete. I’ve got a great mix of old school essentials, mixed with a few new summer additions. Ok, I’ll admit, I’m not the most low maintenance of girls, so my beauty bag isn’t quite as compact as I might like (ok, it’s boarder line toiletry bag size) but the products I rely on really are amazing. They’re so good, I can put them on without a mirror and trust they’ll do their job. So let me introduce you to my current faves…

> These three face products are always in Sam’s handbag

The Touch Up Palette

I used to carry a foundation, concealer and powder all around with me, but since discovering Bobbi Browns Face Touch Up Palette, £34, I have cut back to just this. Oh, and there’s an amazing big mirror in there too, which is great for touch-ups on-the-go.

Cream Blush Is A Must

I’m obsessed with creamy blushers. I love the dewy finish they leave on the tops of my cheeks, and the colour of this new Charlotte Tilbury Colour Of Youth Cheek Glow (coming soon), is the shade I’d naturally flush so looks really natural. I like to add a bit to my lips too if I’m in a rush.

Highlight Help

You might not think a highlighter would be that essential for your handbag, but here’s why I cant live without mine. This little Topshop Highlighter, £9 will perk skin up when it’s looking grey, and the golden reflective pigments make you look like you’ve got a holiday glow. I apply it to the tops of my cheekbones, a little down the centre of my nose, and then pop it in the corner of my eyes, and under the brow bone to give my eyes an instant lift.

> These two together will contour your cheeks to perfection!

The Mega Bronzer

This is not the most petite of bronzers but Stila’s Stay All Day Bronzer for Face and Body, £28, literally will last you until the end of the year. I love the matte finish, it’s great for using with my Look Good Feel Better Angled Contour Blush, £11.99 (which is the softest brush I’ve ever used) to contour just under my cheekbones and along my jaw-line.

> The perfect day, night and everyday lip balm

3 Lip Hits

One lipstick never will do. So I always make sure I carry three with me at all times. There is nothing worse than dry lips, so Elemental Herbology Nuturive Lip Complex, £12, is always on me. It’s amazing for healing chaps and cracks, it smells amazing and I love the glossy (non-sticky) texture. My second lip must-have is an everyday nude, Urban Decay Lipstick in Sheer Liar, £15.50, is the perfect browny pink and I love that it feels like I’m wearing a balm. My third lippie is Deliah’s Colour Intense Lipstick in Tango, £24, which is perfect for giving me a boost when I’m going to an evening event. Plus this coral shades suits ALL skin tones.

> The mascara, liner and eyeshadow that never fails me

Eye Essentials

YSL’s new Full Metal Shadow in Grey Splash, £21, is amazing for transforming eyes from day to night. I apply a light wash for the day, then build up in multiple layers if I want a more smokey eye finish. The cream is so easy to blend with your fingers you don’t need a brush. At the moment I’m really into felt-tip eyeliners, they’re so easy to scribble on and guarentee a near-perfect flick. Loreal Paris Supr Liner Superstar, £x ultra thin tip makes getting into the lash line effortless. The mascara that never fails to amaze me, no matter how many coats I apply is Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, £19, it’s by far the best innovation…ever!

> This scent might be pricey, but it’ll last you ages!

Scented Spritz

If I don’t have my perfume on, I feel like I’ve forgotten my trousers. I picked up this sample of By Kilian’s Good Girl Gone Bad, £195 on a recent trip to New York, and I love it. You only need one spritz as it’s so strong, so this little 50ml will last months.
