There’s Now A Pillowcase That Fights Wrinkles While You Sleep

How many fad beauty treatments do you hear about each week? Probably quite a few. Well, here on the beauty desk we are bombarded with them on a daily basis. We’ve quite literally seen it all, and it’s on the rare occasion that we see something that really, really gets us excited. This is one of those occasions.

Now, incase you’re sitting there thinking: here we go, in what world is it possible for a pillowcase to get rid of your wrinkles. We know how it sounds. To tell you the truth, that was my exact reaction when I first heard about Iluminage’s magical pillow, but let me explain how it works.

You’ve probably heard of skincare products containing metals like copper and gold, this is because they are thought to play an important part in anti-ageing, more specifically maintaining skins health. Copper naturally occurs in the skin and copper peptides in anti-ageing products help with skin renewal, so the clever scientists at Iluminage put two and two together and created a Skin Rejuvenating Pillowcase, £50, which actually contains copper, so you can quite literally fight wrinkles with your eyes closed.

The pillow itself is golden/copper in colour (no surprise there, really) and is a soft, satin material. Copper oxide fibers are woven into the fabric of the pillow and when slept on every night it can reduce wrinkles in as little as four weeks.

Now, I know it still sounds crazy, and right now you are probably thinking: how exactly does it do that. Unfortunately, scientists don’t know why it actually works, they just know that it does. And if you’re worried about spending £50 pounds on a pillow that might stop working, you can use it as you would your normal pillow case, it can go in the washing machine and the tumble dryer – the copper is part of the fabric so it can’t come out or wear off. The only thing you cannot do is use a fabric softener (it’s the softest pillow I’ve laid my head on so I’m not sure why you would need to anyway) because it coats the fabric and creates a barrier between the copper and your skin.

It also helps to prevent wrinkles if you don’t have any and is particularly good at targeting the wrinkles around your eyes and mouth. Plus, there’s now a Skin Rejuvenating Eye Mask, £25, which uses the same technology to specifically target the areas around your eyes – never has the term beauty sleep been more appropriate.

The Skin Rejuvenating Pillowcase is available at Harrods and the Skin Rejuvenating Eye Mask is available exclusively to Selfridges.
