J-Lo’s Golden Globes Make-Up Shouldn’t Have Worked

Jennifer Lopez never fails to wow us when she takes to the red carpet. And last night was no exception.

Taking on the Golden Globes in a seriously statement yellow frock, there was no doubt that the 46-year-old was looking to leave an impression.

Combining a dramatic thigh split with a caped design, the Giambattista Valli dress had it all going on.

Just to add to the show-stopping effect, J-Lo was dripping in 240 carats of Harry Winston diamonds. Wowza.

If you’ve ever wondered how this red carpet chart-topper manages to pull it off every time, she revealed the formula when speaking with Entertainment Tonight.

The star explains, ‘We try on a couple different things. It’s always a fun night at the house and they bring over all the dresses, and we try them on and we see what feels good.’

We can imagine that there’s not much she can’t pull off, can you?

Despite the drama, it was her beauty look that really had people talking. Why? Well, that red lipstick and yellow colour combo is a risky one.

Yet, true to form, this American Idol judge pulled it out of the bag.

Speaking to Allure, celebrity make-up artist Nick Barose reveals why it could have disaster written all over it: ‘Combining two primary colours, like yellow and red, makes each colour look even brighter and adds a younger, quirkier touch to the red lipstick.’

Nick suggests, ‘It’s a dramatic look, but whereas a black dress with red lips looks formal and classic, yellow and red together look more youthful and fun.’

Quinn Murphy also advises that, in order to nail these clashing colours, you should keep the rest of your make-up to a minimum: ‘Too much colour will make this combination costumey. The beauty of this look is in the minimalistic and simplistic clash of unexpected colours. Your blush should be light and your eye makeup soft.’

So. Would you give it a go?
