We’ve had ombre, rainbow hair and more recently pastels but the latest trend sweeping the hair world is silver. Yep, you heard us right, silver (a.k.a grey) couldn’t be more fashionable if the catwalks and red-carpets are anything to go by.
Celebs such as Girls star Zosia Mamet and singer Marina of Marina and the Diamonds have recently sported varying shades of grey. Plus, queen of style Poppy Delevigne has even jumped on bandwagon and dyed her hair an icy blonde so light it’s basically grey.
The trend is also taking over Instagram, natch.
How to get the look at home
Going silver is easiest if you already have fair hair but if you have darker hair you can still get involved. If you have dark hair and want to achieve a really light silver colour you will need to bleach your hair lighter first.
Next up, you need to prep the hair with a purple toned toner. Fudge’s Toner works a treat in counteracting all the yellow undertones in your hair.
Then you can go in with the dye. Colour Freedom and Smart Beauty do good ones.
How to maintain your silver tresses
The key to preserving a true silver hue is keeping brassy tones at bay. To avoid regular salon visits or re-dying stock up on shampoos and conditioners specifically designed for silver locks. In particular, look out for blue or violet toned products that will wave goodbye to yellow undertones and ensure your grey is icy white and super shiny.
We love L’Oreal , Philip Kingsley and Maria Nila.
Due to the inevitable damage caused from bleaching, grey hair needs extra special care, especially if you are using heated tools.
Protect your hair from the damage caused by blowdrying or straightening by using OSMO’s Violet Protect & Tone Styler.
Are you going to jump on the silver hair bandwagon?
