Hair Top Coats: The New Beauty Craze We Love

We’ve all heard of top coats for your nails. But for your hair? That’s new. And it’s about to become the latest hair craze to sweep the beauty world…

So how do they work?

Well, a hair top coat pretty much works in the same way as the one for your nails does – it’s basically a glaze that adds tonality to your locks and helps to amp up your ‘do by providing an instant, colour-boosting shine.

The beauty of hair top coats is that they work quickly (five minutes max), but leave you with gorgeous, noticable results.

You can pick from a variety of finishes, but what’s trending right now are matte, metallic and pearlescent hues – think rose golds and purpley silvers.

Pravana has teamed up with celebrity stylist and colour guru Guy Tang to create a brand new line of top coats called ChromaSilk ExpressTones, with shades in Ash, Violent, Clear and Pearl, and he offers up some tips to anyone looking to give a top coat a go.

If you want to go matte, Guy recommends asking for Ash, or for a more reflective look, try Pearl. He also says that a top coat will look different depending on how light or dark your hair is beforehand, so take a picture of the shade you want in to your hairdresser before asking.

As well as Pravana, Wella has also just brought out Colour Touch Instamatic, an in-salon hair process that gives you a hazy, pastel finish.

Happy glossing…
