We love to keep you up to date with all of the latest hair trends, so meet the newest highlighting technique – foilyage.
A cool new take on the balayage hair trend that’s been going for years now, this version incorporates the use of foil strips to get that gorgeous, sun-kissed ‘lights look.
This means that the colour of the strands are intensified, leading to a slightly more contrasted look that will really leave you turning heads.
‘Foilyage is a technique where the colour is painted on the hair, just like balayage, but then each painted section is wrapped in foils. This amplifies the effect,’ Lorean Cairns, owner of Fox & Jane hair salons told Allure.
‘It creates highlights that seamlessly become more and more vibrant as they transition from the roots down the strands.’
With balayage, colour is painted onto your hair by the hairdresser, which creates a slightly more subtle result. But foils seem like a good way to go if you want a more striking result.
After seeing the foilyage pictures, we’re hooked, and are booking our pre-summer appointment pronto. It also works well on brunettes who are looking for slightly more lifted look.
