Easy Nail Art How-To: Candy Swirls

It’s no secret that we all LOVE nail art (check out our Show Us Your Nails page for inspiration) and this trend is showing no sign of dying down. As the festival season continues, we’ve spoken to our fave super-talented nail artist, Sophie Harris Greenslade, to get the inside scoop on her inspirations, favourite looks and a simple how-to tutorial that she’ll be creating in the V Festival Louder Lounge.

Sophie’s worked with the likes of Rihanna, Cate Blanchett and Nicole Scherzinger, creating all kinds of intricate manis – but what’s been her favourite look? “It’s hard to pick an all-time favourite, but I really love the cut-out lace design I created for Rita Ora to match her Marchesa dress at last year’s MTV Europe music awards.”

“For V Fest, I’m going super-summery – think tie-dye, glitter, ombre, fruits, flowers and lots of rainbow colours! We’re going to be creating the nail art with MAC lacquers but also playing around with MAC glitter pots and pigment powders.”

Can’t wait to get experimenting? Don’t worry, Sophie gave us an easy how-to guide to recreate her gorgeous candy swirl nail design, above.

1) Apply two coats of white polish.

2) Using a silver glitter nail art pen, draw a swirl from the middle of the nail all the way out to the edge.

3) Using a pink, blue, orange, yellow and green nail art pens fill in small moon shaped sections between the swirls, leaving a gap of white inbetween each one.
4) Finish with topcoat!

Check out Sophie’s blog, The Illustrated Nail, and keep your eyes peeled for her ultra-fab nail designs at V Festival in Chelmsford on 17-18 August. Sophie and her team will be keeping VIP guests and celebrities looking their festival-best in the Virgin Media Louder Lounge.
