If you suffer from heaches (and love piercings), we’ve got some pretty exciting news for you…
Because apparently, an edgy new ear piercings could banish your migraines for good. Say what?!
According to the Metro, the daith piercing (the one that passes through that fold of cartilage on the inner part of your ear) has been miraculously curing people of their headaches. Sounds hard to believe?
Well, actually, this particular piercing is said to hit a pressure point in your ear which helps to bring relief to migraine sufferers – it’s all based on acupuncture, basically.
And whilst it hasn’t yet been formally tested by scientists, Twitter is certainly full of case studies suggesting it works.
’39 days and counting – since my Daith piercing and no migraine – my background headache reduced !! Long may it continue’, one happy user wrote.
A whole new Twitter account, @DaithClub, has even emerged to rave about the healing qualities of the piercing.
So what do the professionals say? Well, Dr Thomas Cohn from Minnesota has taken to his blog to give his opinion.
‘Recently, some people who have received a Daith piercing have coincidentally found improvement with their migraine headaches’, he wrote. ‘It is not universal, and it is has not been studied formally.’
‘If a person enjoys ear piercing and suffers from frequent headaches, it may be worthwhile to consider getting this spot pierced. Since body piercings are generally less than $100, this may be a very economical treatment alternative.’
Well, sounds like it’s worth a try to us (just make sure you get a professional to do the piercing, mind)…
