Nautical fashion is one of our favourite feel-good summer trends.
With stripes taking over the catwalks of designers such as Louis Vuitton and Balmain, it’s one of the key trends for spring/summer 2015. With LV playing around with multidirectional lines, and Balmain nodding to this classic trend with a burst of new colour, the nautical fashion trend has been given a contemporary makeover for the new season.
And we’ve fallen head-over-heels in love.
Celebrities are flocking to don this new fashion uniform, with the likes of Alexa Chung, Olivia Palermo and Nicole Richie all sporting horizontal lines. Make like Alexa and team your breton tee with some statement jeans or a denim A-line skirt, or mix up those textures with a suede number like Olivia-P.
Looking to play on the varsity trend? You could opt for a playful striped baseball jersey or colour block jumper for the ultimate in preppy style. Or if you’re looking to appease your inner rock chick, nod to the punk trend with some edgy stripes, and harden the look with a leather biker jacket or chunky spring ankle boots.
Sailor stripes will never fail to get you in the mood for the warmer months. Head to the beach with a nautical bikini, complete with anchor embellishment, or work the at-sea look with some rope detailing.
We’ve selected the very best nautical pieces that the high street has to offer, including a super versatile pencil skirt from Topshop, nautical dresses from Dorothy Perkins, and breton tops a plenty.
