As we start thinking about the new year and all the amazing A-list events we’ve got to look forward to come awards season, it’s time to take a look back on some of the best-dressed celebs of 2013. From Jennifer Lawrence’s Oscars’ gown, to Kate Middleton’s ‘new Mum’ polka dot shift dress, there really have been some amazing fashion moments. See 50 of our favourite here…
Cheryl Cole had a quieter year than usual in 2013, though one of her rare moments in the spotlight this year was to be one of her most iconic looks, a burgundy lace Zuhair Mirad dress for Cannes 2013.
Rihanna started 2013 with a demure red Grammys dress and long curled hair – she ended it with a cropped hair ‘do and an edgier style. We can’t wait for 2014.
Besides her music and well-followed boyfriend shenanigans, Taylor Swift was most recognised for her emerging fashion talent in 2013. She flitted between sexy and sweet in a captivating battle to win back Harry Styles’s heart. Let’s face it, we all tried it too.
Kristen Stewart’s Met Gala red lace jumpsuit was just one of the bold red carpet statements the former Twilight star made this year. She topped off 2013 by being named the new face of Chanel paving the way for a truly exciting 2014.
Kate Middleton crashed the internet with her Jenny Packham pastel blue dress, inspired by Princess Diana who also wore polka dots for her first post-baby picture. Kate Middleton impressed us with her seamless return to her pre-baby wardrobe this year, bring out some old favourites from the collection and proving you can still recycle with you’re a Duchess.
Jennifer Lawrence will – much to her disappointment – forever be associated with this Oscars dress. In 2013, Jennifer was so excited to be receiving her first Oscar that she tripped up the steps. Awks. But that’s precisely why we love Jennifer Lawrence, she laughed it off (as she does all of her hilarious on-screen antics). She’s only human.
Pippa Middleton shocked onlookers in a daring dress at the SugarPlum Ball with boyfriend Nico Jackson. A sheer dress is not something you’d catch the Duchess wearing, but then again, Pippa’s just like the rest of us.
Emma Watson continued her reign as Great Britain’s fashion darling, making her style stamp across the pond to live her Hollywood dream. We admire her elfin styling, showing petite girls how to dress their tiny frames.
For Gwyneth Paltrow, this was the year of the sheer panel dress. We saw it on the red carpet for the Met Ball and by gosh did we (nearly) see it in her premiere dress for Iron Man 3.
Alexa Chung had another year of to-die-for outfits. The Queen of androgenous chic crossed the pond with her wonderful wardrobe, becoming one of the most worshipped trendsetters on the planet.
Rita Ora sped up the fashion ranks in 2013, walking for DKNY at fashion week and becoming the face of Madonna’s fashion label. Our favourite of her style moments was this Alexander Vauthier Couture gown for the MTV VMAs.
Cara Delevingne was the ultimate face of 2013. In her downtime, this fashion face stuck to her tomboy rags (namely hoodies, caps and baggy bottoms) but when it came to shoots and red carpet appearances, boy did she scrub up well.
Beyoncé’s year has been been an incredible one. Besides putting on endless incredible shows for the Mrs Carter World Tour, Queen B also found time to sneak out a brand new album – all the while becoming one of the yummiest mummies on the planet.
In 2013, Sarah Jessica Parker was labelled with a wardrobe malfunction in the front cut Giles Deacon Met Gala dress when she let a knicker flash slip on the red carpet. We disagree, when it comes to fashion, this girl knows what she’s doing.
Jessica Alba, though she’s most celebrated for her red carpet glamour, has really stepped up her game in the casualwear stakes. Jessica Alba’s off-duty look is one we continue to channel come the weekend.
Michelle Dockery evolved into the Britain’s fashion darling in 2013, attending exclusive fashion shows, fronting major magazine covers and pulling out fabulous red carpet dress after fabulous red carpet dress.
Lea Michele’s life ups and downs kept her at the forefront of all of our minds in 2013. She started the year on a huge style high with enviable outfits at every turn, and at the end she came back fighting, putting one small fashion foot in front of the other to get back in front of the cameras.
Victoria Beckham continues to display one of the most coveted styles in fashion, though she always keeps it sleek (and often black). In 2013, this yummy mummy opted for more tailored looks that screamed ‘Who’s the boss?’ to fashion world.
Carey Mulligan became one of our biggest style icons in 2013. With her understated indie looks and that infamous short hair ‘do (to end all short hair ‘dos), all eyes were on this casual queen.
Zooey Deschanel emerges from 2013 as one of the most memorable fashion icons. She became a star in her own right, not least for her quirky-cute style that we love to love. Collars, fringes and glasses – all the things Zooey introduced to our lives.
Sienna Miller was the queen of rock-gothic chic at the Met Gala in May of this year. As per, Sienna oozed cool, choosing to accesorise with plenty of studs and leather plus 2013’s fashion favourite, a rock and roll ear cuff.
Diane Kruger is one of our top dressers of 2013. Off the red carpet scene, her festival-chic style for day dates with Joshua Jackson (swoon) was the most admirable way to wear for casual style in 2013.
Miranda Kerr’s off-duty looks have been some of our favourites from 2013. This girl’s unique casual wardrobe maintains an air of glamour throughout – she won’t be caught without a pair of heeled boots and gorgeous elbow bag.
Kate Moss showed no signs of slowing down as again she became fashion’s hottest property in 2013. Kate Moss has the ability to make a plastic bag look chic, which is why we admire her laidback looks best.
Scarlett Johansson stunned so hard in her busty black Cannes 2013 dress that the giant rock on her left hand, fourth finger totally escaped out attention. She’s capitalised on her sexy curves in 2013, teaching us all how to dress a feminine figure just right.
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley – there wasn’t anyone we’d rather be in 2013. She looked hot in Saint Laurent, wowed in Gucci and stunned in Burberry. Is there anything she can’t wear?
Kim Kardashian returned to her former fashion glory in 2013, slotting back into her pre-baby wardrobe with ease. We particularly loved her bold colour block outfit just hinting at her toned tum that screamed, ‘I’m back, baby.’
Rochelle Humes impressed her fashion following with the ease that she slipped back into her old Saturdays’ wardrobe. The second of The Sats’ singers to turn yummy mummy, Rochelle hasn’t changed her style, she’s just got better.
Poppy Delevingne gave her sister a run for her money in the fashion stakes this year, emerging as the underdog of the Delevingne clan. Her Pink Party dress was a particular favourite with a sheer overlay on a high waisted two-piece. Tres Chic.
Olivia Wilde teams a tiny crop with a maxi skirt to wear one of the summer’s coolest trends. This style queen completes the unique look in a monochrome palette.
Amanda Seyfried stepped out into the fashion spotlight in 2013, revealing a very enviable red carpet wardrobe. She wowed in navy and dazzled in gold, but we loved her best in this scarlett Givenchy number.
Nicole Scherzinger became one of our biggest fashion icons in 2013. She rocked outfit after outfit that had us rushing to the shops. We loved it when she stepped onto the X Factor scene earlier this year in a monochrome mini that said, ‘I’m the style queen now.’
Nicole Richie continues to be one of our top fashion icons in 2013. She wowed us with a daring look at the Met Gala spraying her hair bright white to match a gorgeous gothic gown.
Natalie Portman looks gorgeous in a Dior a-line skirt for the Thor film premiere. Showing she’s the queen of feminine dressing, Natalie keeps this red carpet look undertstated but on-trend.
Naomie Harris’s demure red carpet look is testament to her class and elegance. We’re looking forward to seeing a lot more of this actress in 2014.
Mollie King dipped her toe further into the fashion world this year by signing up with Next Model management and also achieving her first fashion line with high street fashion favourite Oasis. She’s still our Saturdays style icon and we love to follow her looks.
Millie Mackintosh became a bridal style icon when she got hitched to longterm boyfriend Professor Green. Her wedding look was duly added to our future inspiration book. Meanwhile, Millie continued to set trends with her well-followed style blog.
Mila Kunis was most famous for couples style this year – we just couldn’t get enough of Ashton and Mila’s cute duo outfits. Because you know, couples who wear fashion together, stay together.
Marion Cotillard was the definition of French chic in 2013. She oozed elegance and effortless trendiness, especially at Cannes Film Festival 2013.
Kelly Osbourne cut a fine figure in 2013, helping her to make more fashion-fabulous outfit choices. We loved it when she experimented with mesh detail and full skirts for the American Music Awards 2013.
Katy Perry regained her music crown this year storming the charts (ahead of Gaga) with Roar. She seemed to anticipate the chart domination with a regal gold outfit at the Met Gala and continued a gothic theme throughout the fashion calendar.
Jourdan Dunn stormed the model scene this year. We went mad for her cool-girl style and unrivalled ability to pull off ANY beanie hat.
Emma Roberts stepped into her womanly shape this year, establishing herself as a fully-fledged female actress. She particularly showed this in her red carpet dresses that got more figure-fitting, and less prom dress.
Dakota Fanning emerged from her child actor status in 2013, teaming up with her sister Elle to become one of the year’s hottest fashion duos.
Clemence Posey’s fashion credentials were what got her noticed in 2013, storming onto the scene in the TV remake of BirdSong. She went on to dominate the fashion magazines with her version of French-chic dressing.
Chloe Moretz’s soft, feminine style has been seen through girlie florals and fashionable minis. She anticipates an even bigger year next year, so expect to see her style evolve.
Charlize Theron stepped up her style game in 2013, debuting a fabulous pixie crop for the Oscars, but was also reported to have bagged herself a new US style show called ‘Whose Closet Is It Anyway’. Watch this face.
Cameron Diaz took control of her wardrobe in 2013 substituting feminine floor-length gowns and party minis for strong, fashion-forward jumpsuits like the one seen at her ‘What To Expect When You’re Expecting’ premiere, and we loved it.
Anne Hathaway made headlines in this Prada gown, with the world’s press fooled into thinking the seams on her dress revealed a very perky pair. Inspite of this we fully appreciated her gorgeous Oscars gown, and commended her newly cropped brunette ‘do.
Allison Williams’s fashion-fabulous year was one that really put her on the map. She began stepping out in some of the world’s most celebrated designers and pulling out all the right on-trend outfits. We can’t wait for 2014.
