The Great British Bake Off

It was Pastry Week in the tent, which saw bakers create Danish pastries, Bakewell tarts and filo masterpieces.

Candice Brown was named Star Baker, while Val Stone went home. *Sob*.

In her leaving speech, Val was visibly emotional, telling the camera: ‘I’m not unhappy. I had a great time with some great people – and I didn’t expect it.

‘I didn’t expect to ever get here, never mind be on it… When you bake, you always bake for a reason – because you’re giving something to people.

‘You’re giving it to people so you do the best you can and make bake with love. Whenever I make anything, I stir love into it and I knead love into it so when I present it, it’s special.

‘Of course I was disappointed but you have to just go with it. Somebody has got to have a soggy bottom, so it might as well be me.’

Cue the nation’s hearts breaking. Tweets included: ‘Was way too drunk to have to watch Val leave bake off. Literally so gutted I can’t stop crying,’ and: ‘Actual tears that Val has left bake off ?????.’

She’s since said: ‘I am a reasonably good baker but not a tent baker, but I did something else that no other baker achieved – I got all my family on television and that is more important to me.

‘If you notice all my bakes are around my family. I have two children and two grandchildren and they are my world.’

Oh, Val. Please stop. It’s just embarrassing to cry in the office.
