Fashion editors, buyers, street-style photographers et al are flocking to the most fashionable capitals in the world this month, for the SS16 collections. Which means…hashtag central!
Yep, if you didn’t bag a ticket to Balmain this season, Instagram is a safe-haven for us mere mortals this month, to catch a glimpse of the labels we love. But who is actually the most popular brand in general, not just at Fashion Week? Instagram has the answer.
Macys store in New York have put together a chart comparing which brands are the most Instagrammed. Looking at the top twenty with most followers and most hashtag mentions they have revealed the companies that you are all loving and talking about the most.
Nike tops the chart at number 1 – with a suitably triumphant 47.7 million mentions and 18.7 million followers! This is miles ahead of the number other brands including sportswear rival Adidas Originals which has less than half Nike’s followers at 6.4 million. And while Prada had relatively less followers at 4.2 million, they’re still getting 18.7 million mentions.
Also it looks like the world’s obsession with Hello Kitty isn’t set to end any time soon as their 8.2 million hashtag mentions have put the brand at number 13!
Unsurprisingly, the luxury brands such as Prada, Gucci and Dior are all in the top five for most hashtag mentions, but they seem to suffer more on the followers front, creeping slightly lower down the list. They are getting pipped to the post by sports labels such as Nike, Adidas, and Adidas Originals.
Celebrities such as Ellie Goulding are often posting work-out pictures wearing their trusty pair of Nikes. And its not just in the gym – you can count on the fash pack donning a pair too this fashion week darting from show to show.
