Tom Hardy To Play Elton John In New Movie Biopic

Tom Hardy is used to playing the tough guy, but he could be about to step into a world of sequins and bejewelled specs as he’s tipped to play Elton John in a biopic about the legendary singer’s life.

Reports suggest the rugged The Dark Knight Rises actor is the top contender to play Sir Elton in Rocketman, which will depict the 66-year-old megastar’s colourful life. Justin Timberlake was originally touted to nab the part, but executive producer Elton (yes, the man himself) is now said to be pursuing Hardy. Well, you would pick someone stupidly handsome to play a younger version of yourself, wouldn’t you?!

The last time Tom played the lead in a biopic, he beefed up and shaved his head to depict Britain’s most notorious prisoner, Charles Bronson, in Bronson. But this role will see the actor tapping into his slightly more, er, ‘feminine’ side to play the flamboyant musician in the biographical musical fantasy.

And in case that wasn’t enough Hardy news for you, the hunky star also hit headlines this week when he surprised a cancer sufferer by whisking her off on a lunch date on Monday. After seeing 23-year-old Kayleigh Duff, who has a rare form of liver cancer, admit her huge crush on the actor on This Morning, the sister of Hardy’s fiancee Charlotte Riley got in touch.

“I nearly died when I saw him. I was shaking – I just thought we were having a day out in London”, Kayleigh said. “He was so lovely and down to earth. We had lunch and tea and scones and he bought me a diamond necklace.”

Swoon. What a top bloke!
