Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield left some Great British Bake Off fans VERY angry after joking about who the new hosts could be...
With the news that Mel and Sue won’t be returning to the Bake Off still ringing in our ears, we’re not sure we can handle any more GBBO drama, but here goes…
After fans of the BBC1 show kicked up an almighty storm following the announcement that the nation’s favourite tent will be moving to Channel 4, presenting duo Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were next to face the wrath of angry Bake Off viewers.
With the British public already on tenterhooks waiting for ANY piece of GBBO information they can possibly get their hands on, the This Morning Twitter account teased it’s followers with the message: “Are @Schofe and @hollywills taking over from Mel & Sue? We reveal all at 10:30am only on #ThisMorning”.
But as excited ITV viewers tuned in, they were left more than a little bit disappointed when Phil and Holly failed to reveal who the new hosts would be, instead just confirming it definitely wasn’t going to be them.
Phil told the public: “We are in the mix at 100/1 and we can officially announce… It’s NOT going to be us!”
He went on: “I can’t bake to save my life, and I don’t want to look like that either!”
An image of the pair’s heads mocked up on beloved presenters, Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc, then flashed up on the screen.
But it seems their joke didn’t amuse viewers of This Morning, who soon took to Twitter to share their annoyance. One disgruntled viewer wrote: “Oh man… That This Morning Bake Off ‘joke’ was not thought through, was it”.

Another joked: “STOP PLAYING WITH US “THIS MORNING” WE’VE SUFFERED ENOUGH ALREADY THIS WEEK”.
And we definitely feel the pain of one fan, who tweeted: “What just happened on This Morning… The country is in a very fragile state right now. It’s too soon to start making jokes. #GBBO.”
When Rylan later told Phil and Holly of the social media fury they’d caused, the embarrassed presenter’s insisted they didn’t know anything about the tweet.
Phil told viewers: “We had no idea that our interactive team had done that!”
With Holly even apologising to the nation: “We didn’t even know! We’re so sorry!”
After that false alarm, we literally CANNOT wait to see who will be stepping up to host GBBO. But in the meantime, let’s all sit back and make the most of Mel and Sue’s final series.
