The Voice UK is on a roll when it comes to its current celebrity recruitment drive – yesterday it was announced that JLS’ Marvin Humes will be the new co-host alongside Emma Willis, and now the BBC show has revealed their brand new coach for the new series… Kaiser Chief frontman Ricky Wilson!
Stepping in to replace The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue, the 35-year-old Yorkshire lad will join regular coaches Sir Tom Jones and will.i.am as well as newbie Kylie Minogue (who will replace Jessie J) as the fourth and final judge on the hit talent show.
The official Twitter feed for The Voice confirmed the news this morning, announcing: “We have a new chief, sorry, coach. It’s Ricky Wilson from the Kaiser Chiefs! Ricky, we salute you.”
The I Predict A Riot singer then followed suit by tweeting to his 51,000 followers: “Guys! You can all relax. I can confirm that I’m completing the line up on BBC1’s The Voice this year!!”
BBC’s deputy director Mark Linsey has praised cheeky chappy Ricky as being the perfect man for the Saturday night swivel chair. “Ricky is one of the UK music scene’s great frontmen”, he said. “He knows all about performance and will complement the rest of the coaching line-up perfectly.”
Jessie J and The Script’s Danny both bowed out of joining the third series, due to air in January 2014, earlier this year, wihile original presenters Holly Willoughby and Reggie Yates also announced their departure from the show over the weekend.
We can’t wait to see how all of these new faces get on (and to perve on Marv and gobby rocker Ricky, who we always had a teeny bit of a crush on…) Bring on January!
