Simon Cowell showed his humane side last night on Britain’s Got More Talent when he got very wound up about a one-off feature involving animals.
The TV mogul was left furious after Stephen Mulhern introduced a skit called ‘Puppies Got Talent’.
Simon, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and David Walliam were all tasked with taking part in a special quiz that allowed them to ‘win’ a puppy for every answer they got right.
But after Simon and the rest of the judges had enjoyed cuddles with the pups, Simon attempted to close the whole thing down once he realised that the frightened dogs were ‘trembling’.
Telling Stephen he’d had enough, Cowell said: ‘She’s frightened, this one.’
He was then reportedly overheard telling production staff on the show: ‘They shouldn’t be doing this.’
The Metro claimed that the dad-of-one then spoke to the puppies’ owners backstage to ask if they were being properly looked after, before stating that the dogs needed to be taken home.
Mulhern then made a formal apology later on in the show, saying: ‘Very quickly, I just want to apologise if we upset anybody with the puppies. Obviously that was not our intention in any shape or form.
‘So if we have upset you in any way I do apologise on behalf of Britain’s Got More Talent.’
Quite right, too.
