The X Factor judge says accidentally saying Gifty's name to be voted off on Sunday's show left him 'humiliated'...
Simon Cowell has opened up about that awkward Gifty Louise speculation since she was eliminated from The X Factor on Sunday.
It was pretty hard to watch the moment Gifty was voted off by the judges on Sunday’s results show, mainly because she looked so annoyed at what was happening.
And it didn’t help that her own mentor, Simon, accidentally made a huge gaffe when host Dermot O’Leary asked him which act he would like to eliminate from the competition.
Accidentally replying with Gifty’s name instead of rival act Four Of Diamonds, who were also in the bottom two, Simon quickly followed up by saying: ‘No, I’ve made a mistake’, and naming the girl band instead.
With rumours swirling that the vote might have been a ‘fix’ by viewers at home – who thought show producers could have been whispering for Gifty to be voted off into the judges’ ears – Simon has now decided to speak out about the embarrassing incident.
And he admits he’s found the whole thing ‘horrible’ and ‘humiliating’.
‘It was humiliating’, he told The Sun at last night’s Pride Of Britain Awards. ‘That’s the nature of live TV but it was horrible. People should have voted for her that’s the way it goes.’
Since Sunday, Gifty has made her feelings towards the judges very clear, saying she thinks there was some sort of conspiracy to get her out.
‘I felt like they had made up their minds that, you know, “I think Gifty has to go”‘, she said on Good Morning Britain.
And after being criticised for looking seriously unhappy on the results show, and in her TV appearances since, Gifty hit back on Twitter.
‘Not going to pretend I’m happy and smile for the beneficial of others. I worked my a** off and I was gutted. I’m allowed to be’, she angrily tweeted.
We’ll miss you, lady.
