Rylan Clark was voted off The X Factor last night in a tense showdown against boyband Union J.
After performing a medley of Abba and Motown hits on Saturday night, the loveable Essex star found himself in the bottom two. He put on his best performance to date, singing a stunning rendition of Athlete’s ‘Wires‘, but all the judges – bar Rylan’s mentor Nicole Scherzinger – still chose to send him home.
Union J performed Snow Patrol’s ‘Run‘, to great applause from the audience.
And there was no sign of a smug grin from Gary Barlow, who told Rylan: “You have been an amazing contestant. That is your best vocal performance.” He also said Rylan had been “great fun” to have in the competition.
Gary and Rylan have had their fair share of tiffs – in fact, it’s their banter we think we’ll miss the most!
That leaves Union J, James Arthur, Jahmene Douglas and Christopher Maloney in next week’s semi-final. Eek! We can’t WAIT. RM
