The singer says she found the whole ordeal 'rude and disrespectful' when it was suggested she might be involved in Beyonce and Jay Z's marriage...
It seems like there’s not much that Rita Ora can’t do, with her first single hitting number one back in 2012, the star has since turned her hand to fashion designing, judging on The X Factor AND The Voice, and now starring in Hollywood films. Phew.
But despite throwing herself into her recent role as the host of reality show America’s Next Top Model, Rita has recently struggled to keep her private life, well… private.
And earlier this year the Hot Right Now singer found herself caught in the firing line of some seriously annoyed Beyonce fans. Eeek.
The release of Bey’s new album ‘Lemonade’ back in April, sparked a whole load of speculation around the meaning behind the infamous lyric ‘You better call Becky with the good hair’ – apparently referring to a woman who slept with husband, Jay Z.
And the rumour mill went into over-drive when Rita posted a photo of herself on Snapchat wearing a bra with a lemon print from her clothing line, and sported a “Not Becky” hair pin at a showbiz bash in New York, with many fans speculating that she was behind the affair.
But after a few months under the radar, the 25-year-old has finally hit back at the rumours, calling the whole thing “rude and disrespectful”. Speaking to Vanity Fair, the star said: “First and foremost, Jay Z is my inspiration and one of my idols—lyrically, musically, business-wise. I still look up to him and his wife every day. Beyoncé was one of my biggest idols growing up.”
The singer went on: “That [pin] was a present from Katy Perry. Maybe I was the only one seen wearing it, but there were others. As for the rest of it, I’m oblivious, I’m just not the gossip queen. I find it incredibly rude and disrespectful to women in general [when] we get accused of something that’s basically against the important part—the music.”
Aside from all the drama surrounding that mysterious ‘Becky’ line, the talented star admitted she isn’t exactly a novice when it comes to showbiz dramas, before revealing she’s only ever had her heartbroken once.
Rita said: “I have had a few dramas, haven’t I? I think in general I’ve learned my lesson to not talk about relationships and gossip because I’ve been at the centre of it a few times and it’s not worth it. And I have been heartbroken . . . just once.”
The singer went on: “Love is so great, but it also can be the most dangerous thing on planet earth. People do crazy things when it comes to jealousy and love.”
We couldn’t agree more.
