Forget who wins the actual awards, we’re more interested in the outrageous fashion, outfits and controversy that happens on the red carpet. Here are the moments that made us gasp at the ceremony…
The World’s Most Famous Hat Was Born
Yep, Pharrell William’s now infamous hat made its red carpet debut at the Grammys in 2014. The Vivienne Westwood fedora sent Twitter into meltdown and was compared to Harry Potter’s Sorting Hat and even got its own parody account. You do you, Pharrell, you do you.
Queen Latifah Married People
Coolest wedding ever? During a performance by Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and Madonna, Queen Latifah married 33 straight and gay couples at the 2014 Grammys – and we ordained for the night for the special occasion. “To have your wedding in front of 100 million people is pretty momentous,” Latifah said after and during the performance of ‘Same Love’ she shouted out to the crowd, “we are gathered here to celebrate love and harmony in every key and colour.” All together now AWWWWW!
Justin Timberlake Said Sorry
But not for his awful hair back in the N Sync days. At the 2004 Grammys the singer made a rather weak apology for the now infamous Janet Jackson nip slip. “What occurred was unintentional, completely regrettable and I apologize if you guys were offended,” he said after winning best male pop vocal performance for ‘Cry Me A River.’
Katy Perry Moved Us All To Tears
Before her performance of “By The Grace Of God” Katy invited on stage domestic violence survivor Brooke Axtell who gave a moving speech about her own personal ordeal. It had everyone in buckets of tears – and sent out a strong, strong message to the millions watching at home.

Whose team were you on? At 2000’s awards Christina was triumphant in her rivalry with fellow pop princess as she scooped Best New Artist, leaving Britters out in the cold.
Jaws literally dropped when Jennifer Lopez rocked this Versace dress to the awards in 2000. Her boyfriend of the time P Diddy couldn’t keep his eyes off her, it became an iconic look and even caused Google to invent the Google Images tab as so many people wanted to see the dress.
Eminem and Elton John Sing And Make Up
Now this was one unexpected duet. Eminem was joined on stage by Elton John at the 2001 awards, for a duet of the rapper’s hit ‘Stan.’ It was during a time when Eminem was being hugely criticized for his lyrics which were labeled homophobic, violent and misogynistic – and protesters even stood outside the awards holding signs saying “Awards Music, Not Hate.” But Elton agreed to show support with the rapper and sang the Dido sample from the tune in a seriously memorable duet, and since then the pair have been firm friends.
Lady Gaga Arrives In An Egg
Forget the meat dress, this has to be one of Gaga’s best looks of all time. Gaga was carried across the red carpet inside an egg by four dancers, and she then proceeded to break out of it during her performance. You really can’t fault her for originality or commitment… she later revealed she’d been in the egg for three whole days!
Rihanna’s Pink Dress
She drew comparisons to a loofah, Nicki Minaj’s hair and a Barbie doll but we just loved how Rihanna made sure all eyes were on her at 2015’s awards by showing up in the most epic pink dress ever. We can’t wait to see what she’ll rock this year!
