NME Awards 2013: One Direction Named Worst Band

One Direction added another huge accolade to their awards haul last night – but this is one shiny statue they won’t want to shout about. The Brit boys were crowned Worst Band at the NME Awards 2013. Ouch!

They beat Muse, Mumford & Sons, Alt-J, Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran to the award, which was voted for by NME readers.

Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne chose not to attend the awards at London’s Troxy, but their rival Jake Bugg was present, and he gave them an extra kick on the red carpet by insisting that they’re not even a “band”.

Talking about the category before the ceremony, he said: “I don’t know how they can really be considered a band though to be honest. I’m not too sure. I think the more I play on it, it’ll wind them up.”

Awks. And if that wasn’t bad enough, Harry was also crowned Villian Of The Year by the music mag’s readers. Harry tweeted after the event: “And thank you to ‪@NME‬ for my award tonight. Gotta take the rough with the smooth eh?”

Don’t worry, lads. WE still love you. RM
