Ever wondered what it’s like to attend a big awards ‘do?
Here at LOOK, we’re lucky enough to be invited to the best events the showbiz world has to offer – but 20-year-old singer Beaux Sanders has done one better than us.
The young Brit star won the Grammy Awards and Hitlab’s Unsigned competition, meaning she was not only named the best unsigned artist in the world, but she got to attend the awards themselves, walk the red carpet and perform at the Social Media Rock Star’s Summit.
Read her exclusive LOOK diary here… we’re not at all jealous. Ahem.
Day One: We arrived in Los Angeles where a stretch limo drove me to the hotel in West Hollywood. I was greeted with an incredible suite which is the size of a normal apartment. I’m so excited to be here that I could hardly sleep and the jet lag hasn’t helped. An early night for me!
Day Two: I’m still in disbelief that I’m in LA but haven’t had the time to reflect as was driven straight to rehearsals after a 5am wake-up call. I walked into the rehearsal studio and to my delight the musicians knew my songs inside out. My manager and I got some sushi and went back to the hotel for an early night.
Day Three: D-Day, or performance day. I was up very early AGAIN for hair and make-up, slipped into my beautiful House of Holland dress and jumped in the car to sound check. We ran through one song and I’m massively pleased with the sound. Makes a change from London venues! Then I waited for what I knew would be the most high profile gig so far in my career. I ate some crazy American cured meat backstage. (Not so great).

The performance went so quickly but I enjoyed every second – the crowd were so enthusiastic and welcoming. Afterwards, everybody was asking where to find me and complimenting me on my dress. Akon watched me perform, which was so surreal.
I got invited to the Bruce Springsteen party to help celebrate his contribution to music. Elton John, Katy Perry, Neil Young, Patti Smith, John Legend, Mumford and Sons and Sean Penn were so close to us. Being in a room with musical greats like that was amazing. I headed back to the hotel for some well-deserved rest. Jet lag is still in full swing. Sigh.
Day Four: I woke up VERY early, yes, I still feel jet lagged. The hair and make-up girls and my lovely stylist Nathalie helped me squeeze into my Michael Costello gown. I forgot spanks so had an entire day of sucking my tummy in. Fashion is pain! Another limo ride later and I arrived at what I can only describe as a circus. There were cameras everywhere, assistants running around and everybody was dressed in black tie.
I was interviewed by the Grammys reporters and ushered along the carpet to have my photo taken in front of the awards logo. There were so many flashes it was hard not to squint!
The award show itself was fantastic. Highlights include Bruno Mars performing with Rihanna, Sting, Damian Marley and Ziggy Marley, Mumford & Sons playing with Elton John, Brittany from Alabama Shakes and Zac Brown.
I had enough time for a quick change into my other Michael Costello dress with amazing (but very uncomfortable) YSL shoes before hitting the Arabian-themed after-party where Estelle played live.
Day Five: I spent some time checking out LA today. My manager got a tattoo, we saw the Walk Of Fame and we went to Hooters to eat junk food. I had a meeting with Akon which was surreal, to say the least. He was incredibly nice and complimentary about my music and everyone in the room was tapping their feet and bopping their heads.
Before he left, my manager and I got a photo with him outside the studio! The entire experience was amazing yet completely overwhelming. Thank you to everyone at Hitlab, you guys ROCK!
