Wow. Well, the MTV EMAs 2015 wasn’t short of surprises, was it?
The MTV Europe Music Awards was held in Milan this year, and as usual, a whole host of celebrities turned out for the glitzy annual event. Ruby Rose and Ed Sheeran were hosting this year’s awards ‘do, and let’s just say Ruby knew exactly how to get tongues wagging…
The Orange Is The New Black actress not only boasted seven outfit changes on the night – including one meme-worthy bright yellow ‘spaghetti dress’ – but she also made a brilliant statement for gender fluidity with her opening statement:
‘Ladies and gentlemen, and everyone in-between’, she said to welcome the EMA viewers to the show. Safe to say, Twitter approved, with tonnes of fans applauding her inclusive opener.
Ellie Goulding turned up to the red carpet rocking bright yellow hair (yep, we said yellow). Not even Kylie Jenner’s dared to rock that one… And Hailey Baldwin won the award for sexiest frock with her cutout Versace mini dress. Miaow!
Justin Bieber was the big winner of the night, scooping five awards. Not bad, considering he was nominated for seven… The singer took home best male, best North American act, best collaboration for Where Are You Now?, with Skrillex and Diplo, biggest fans and best look.
Oh, and Ruby also presented a flame-thrower on stage in an attempt to show Ed Sheeran ‘how to be badass’. But while the 29-year-old Australian actress successfully flamed the stage, poor Ed could only manage a measly puff of smoke once he got his hands on the mighty machine. Doh.

‘Well, that was embarrassing’, Ruby said. Oh Ed, we still love you!

5 Reasons Why We’re Excited For The MTV EMAs 2015
It’s been 21 years (!) since the first MTV Europe Music Awards show first aired, otherwise known as the EMA’s. And unlike other big music ceremonies, each year it’s held in a different country. Next pit stop? Milan. And if previous years are anything to go by we can expect scene stealing outfits, stellar performances and (hopefully) a dose of drama from the acts…remember when Christina Aguilera refused to walk the red carpet if Kelly Osborne was present?!
Here’s what to expect from the MTV EMA’s this weekend …
1. These Guys Will Be Hosting…
Yep, our favourite singer Ed Sheeran is teaming up with Orange Is The New Black actress and Look’s style crush, Ruby Rose, to co-host the awards year. First time for everything, ‘ey! While Ed is clearly comfortable behind the mic, likewise Ruby in front of a camera, they’ve still got tough acts to follow – with previous hosts including Ali G, Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj last year. We wonder if Ed will do a Nicki with multiple outfit changes?
2. Stunning Stage Sets…
We loved it when pop powerhouse, Ariana Grande, thrilled audiences last year in Glasgow when she flew across the crowd, with the help of a few pyrotechnics obvs. It’s all about the entrance – bigger is alwaysbetter.
3. Biebs Is Back!
After those racy photos surfaced earlier this month, Justin Bieber recently announced he’s putting on another display, as he joins the line-up of performers this year ahead of him album launch Purpose on November 13. “I’m excited to share this performance and this new material with my fans around the world,” Bieber says. This year he’s up for best Canadian, best male, best pop, best worldwide act: North America, best look, best collaboration, and biggest fans. If we were him we’d be a bit miffed if we didn’t bring home at least one then.
4. Red Carpet Rules…
The fabulous fashion choices at the EMA’s are reason to watch it alone. Katy Perry’s half bride/groom and eyeball dress in 2008? LOVE.
5. Hot Newcomers
If you haven’t heard of them already you have to check out the roster of rising talent who are nominated for Best New Act from US pop singer Tori Kelly to brooding rocker James Bay.
We cannot wait!
