In the process, a new piece of information has come to light. And even Avery’s original defence attorneys are interested.

Jerry Buting recently revealed to Rolling Stone that the internet had found something that he and his partner had missed.

He said, ‘We were only two minds. What I’m discovering is that a million minds are better than two. Some of these people online have found things with a screen shot of a picture that we missed.’

So, what is this magic piece of the puzzle?

Well, you must remember the famous key that was presented as evidence in Steven’s trial? The key that wasn’t found in his trailer until multiple searches had been conducted?

Yes, that key.

After closer inspection of this photograph of Teresa, which was used in the documentary, it can be seen that a key chain with several keys is visible. But only one key was ever found.

Buting explains, ‘I’ve looked at that picture a thousand times. Those other keys were never recovered. Instead we found this single key. Now we did challenge that, how unusual it was for her to be walking around with one key, but I don’t think I caught the fact that there was a photograph showing that what she really carried around was a bunch of keys, and none of those keys were ever found.’

Social media has already changed so many aspects of our lives. Could it also influence the way we conduct trials in the future?

We’re sure that this discovery will further fuel the online MAM buzz…
