The Love Island star has been accused of diet-shaming after posting a photo of himself drinking a protein shake in McDonalds...
Love Island’s Adam Maxted faced an army of angry McDonald’s fans this weekend after he jokingly shamed the fast food restaurant.
The loveable reality star learnt the hard way that you don’t mess with The Golden Arches when he sent Twitter into meltdown with a cheeky selfie in the popular restaurant.
But Adam wasn’t pictured tucking into a Double Cheeseburger and a Caramel Iced Frappe. Nope, instead the pro wrestler was snapped enjoying a delicious… protein shake?
Holding a plastic shaker and a packet of protein powder, Adam captioned the photo: “Sometimes I like going into McDonald’s to sit and have my protein shake… Just to make everyone there feel better about their diet.”
And unsurprisingly it didn’t take long for followers to react to the risky pic, with one Twitter user retweeting it with the caption: “What a w***** I’d lob a nugget at him” – which now has over 35,000 retweets (including Geordie Shore’s Gaz Beadle). Ouch.
Adam was quick to delete the post off Instagram and the island favourite went on to tweet his 100k followers: “I didn’t know I was this good at winding people up.. Get me on impractical jokers #canttakeajoke.”
Despite all the backlash, Adam has now gone on to defend the controversial picture, telling OK!: “I can see how people may have taken that post the wrong way but if anyone really knew me they would know the last thing I would want to do is offend people,”

The reality star went on: “I work as a personal trainer I train people of all shapes and sizes and fitness levels, I would never turn my nose up or judge anyone for eating junk food when I eat it myself.
“It’s sad that all this has been blown out of proportion when it was meant to be a joke for my wrestling so that the people that come to watch me wrestling have something to get at me for.
“At the moment when I’m wrestling people like me because they saw the real me – the nice guy on Love Island – so they don’t believe that I’m a bad guy when I’m in the ring wrestling.”
Luckily most people took the photo light-heartedly, with one follower commenting: “@AdamMaxted Ronald mcdonald wants a championship match with you!” LOL.
Whatever your thoughts are on THAT Maccy D’s photo, it’s safe to say Adam definitely succeeded in causing a bit of a storm!
