After the ladies debuted new single Shout Out To My Ex on Sunday night's X Factor, some fans likened it to G.R.L.'s Ugly Heart...
Yep. We’ve already fallen hard for Little Mix’s new single Shout Out To My Ex.
Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall debuted the track live on The X Factor on Sunday night – and it’s been stuck in our heads ever since.
At the time, Tweets included: ‘I’m so proud of @LittleMix!!! #ShoutoutToMyEx is absolutely incredible and the performance on X Factor was heavenly ❤️❤️,’ and: ‘Little Mix on X Factor last night were something else man I’ve never seen them perform like that before [sic].’
Even Simon Cowell wrote: ‘That was one of the best performances ever seen on @TheXFactor. Congratulations @LittleMix.’
And it seems as though the rest of the world agrees. It’s now #1 on the iTunes chart in eight countries and is about to creep into the top 10 in the US.
But unfortunately for the ladies, some pretty unpleasant speculation has since arisen about the tune.
A number of listeners have accused Shout Out To My Ex of ‘copying’ G.R.L.’s Ugly Heart, which was released back in 2014. Eep.
On Twitter, messages popped up such as: ‘Shoutout to my ex kinda sounds like ugly heart by GRL 🤔,’ and: ‘On my first listen of Shout Out To My Ex. Um…it’s Ugly Heart? It’s exactly the same [sic].’
Even G.R.L. have responded to the speculation, simply Tweeting on their official account: ‘#ShoutOutToUglyHeart.’
Oosh. That shade isn’t exactly subtle, eh?
Others have stuck up for LM, with one writing: ‘Just like with CFTS & Jessie J’s Domino, SOTME & Ugly Heart have the same chord progression that thousands of pop songs have. Means nothing.’
Another said: ‘Well, that’s kinda true that sotme sounds like ugly heart, but perfect sounds like style and no one had a problem with that?’
Little Mix are yet to comment on the allegations. But we think they may be too busy celebrating their success to be too bothered…
