We may have some sad news for One Direction fans – Liam Payne and his girlfriend Sophia Smith are reported to have split up.
Reports emerged over the weekend that the couple had ended their two-year-relationship, with a source telling MailOnline: ‘Liam and Sophia have split.
‘Liam is incredibly sad, but is going to keep busy. He really hopes that everybody will respect both his and Sophia’s privacy and stop speculating.’
Fans weren’t sure whether to believe the news or not at first, thanks to a fake Instagram account in the name of Sophia denying the whole thing.
The hoaxer posted a photo of the pair, writing the caption: ‘i love you more and more every day. #stop #the #rumours’. Er, confusing much?
But while neither Liam, 22, nor Sophia have confirmed their break-up, the 1D singer has been getting pretty emotional on his Twitter page.
He Tweeted on Saturday: ‘I love how music is always there for you when you need it most x.’
Liam and Sophia hooked up in 2013, a few months after he split from dancer Danielle Peazer. However, they’d been friends since their school days back in Wolverhampton. Aw.
Their romance had seemed pretty solid, with Sophia often joining her man at VIP bashes and Liam recently telling Attitude magazine that they’d ‘talked about marriage’.
So naturally, Directioners are pretty upset about the rumours.
One Tweeted over the weekend: ‘LIAM AND SOPHIA BROKE UP??? WHAT?????’ while a particularly devastated follower wrote: ‘Please tell me liam and sophia didnt actually break up.’

It’s no wonder they’re so concerned – it’s been an extremely bad year for 1D relationships.
Louis Tomlinson broke up with his long-term love Eleanor Calder back in March before Zayn Malik ended his engagement to Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards over summer.
Now fans are wondering whether Liam’s alleged heartbreak may have something to do with him pulling out of a concert in Belfast last week.
The band cancelled their show at the city’s SSE Arena just 30 minutes before they were due to perform, explaining that Liam had been ‘taken ill’.
He later apologised on Twitter, explaining: ‘I’m so sorry to everybody I disappointed. I’m feeling better now. I really hope everyone can make the rescheduled date.’
Whatever the case, we hope both Liam and Sophia are okay.
