We were REALLY looking forward to watching Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby this Christmas, but now the film has suddenly been pushed back to the summer of 2013!
The glitzy trailer for the film was released earlier this year, and it looks set to follow in the footsteps of Baz’s eye-catching flicks Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge.
The end of the year is traditionally Oscar season – the big studios get their top Academy Award contenders out there then so the movies are fresh in the voters’ minds… but Gatsby now won’t be among them.
The December movie calendar is still overflowing with exciting releases – Leo’s already starring in Django Unchained, and other big festive season releases include Les Miserables starring Anne Hathaway, and The Hobbit.
So, is it a shrewd move by the producers? Or a sign the movie’s not Oscar-worthy? We can’t imagine that’s the case with all that talent on board. BS
