The TV presenter had to pull out of this weekend's dance show, and she took to social media to explain what was really going on...
Laura Whitmore was forced to pull out of her Strictly Come Dancing performance over the weekend.
The 31-year-old’s absence was due to an injury that she had sustained during rehearsals earlier in the week.
Taking to her Twitter account ahead of Saturday night’s show, the TV presenter released a lengthy statement which explained how ‘devastated’ she was to be missing out.
Laura wrote: ‘Absolutely Devastated… It was a decision taken out of my hands. If it was my choice, I’d be on the dance floor doing my jive with Gio.
‘This was by far my favourite dance. We all train really hard. All of us dancing have aches and pains and I didn’t realise the severity of my injury until it was too late. I’m sorry to let you all down.’
She continued, ‘My priority is to follow the doctors instructions to get myself on my feet again without permanent damage and do the thing I love the most, dancing! Thanks to all my fellow contestants for the support they’ve given me in the last 24hrs’ [sic].
A statement was also issued from the Strictly camp, confirming that Laura was suffering with an ‘ankle injury sustained earlier in the week.’
The BBC contest also explained: ‘As per the rules of Strictly Come Dancing – because Laura and Giovanni cannot dance on tonight’s show – they will receive a bye through to next week and the show will continue with a public vote as per usual.’
This came around the same time that reports of a ‘mystery bug’ striking down ‘six of its professional dancers’ emerged.
Of course, Brendan Cole has been suffering with a lung infection, and was advised by doctors to get plenty of rest. But Strictly Come Dancing has denied the rumours of a more widespread ‘bug’, according to BBC News.
