What You Didn’t Know About Kim Kardashian’s Diet

She’s famed for her curvy shape, and for quickly regaining her pre-baby figure after the birth of her children North and Saint. But it isn’t just a torturous exercise routine that keeps Kim Kardashian in shape – it’s also a diet that seemed to fall out of fashion a few years ago: Atkins.

Yep, Kim swears by the low-carb, high-protein Atkins diet, and even announced she’d become an Atkins brand ambassador back in January.

The Atkins diet works by forcing the body to use fat deposits as energy instead of glucose by cutting out carbs. Medical professionals have questioned how effective it is, with some even saying that people on the Atkins diet are missing out vital nutrients.

But it seems to be working for Kim, who is so confident that she’s getting all the nutrients she needs, that she even stuck to the diet while breastfeeding. She had her nutritionist, Colette Heimowitz, advising her.

Colette has revealed that the healthy fats and protein in Kim’s Atkins meal plan meant it was healthy for her to eat while breastfeeding.

‘The beauty about Atkins is that it meets all the nutritional requirements you need post-pregnancy and for pregnancy because you’re eating adequate protein, you’re eating healthy fats and high-fibre carbohydrates,’ she told Cosmopolitan.

Kim doesn’t eat more than 1,800 calories a day – for breakfast, she has an egg omelette, for lunch, grilled chicken and for dinner, typically it’s zucchini noodles with spicy chicken. Snackwise, Kim’s been sticking to fruit and nut bars or Greek yogurt. The only things blacklisted by Colette are bagels.

Kim hasn’t been rushing things, though. ‘Rapid weight loss isn’t healthy for a breastfeeding mom,’ said Colette. ‘So it was a nice balance, a steady weight loss over the past six months after her pregnancy.’

She’s also been ensuring she stays healthy by reintroducing carbs into her diet with ‘brown rice, quinoa [and] sweet potato’.

Kim gave birth to Saint, her second child with Kanye West, in December, and regained her toned body within months.

She’s been sharing her meals on Snapchat, and has been using Instagram to flaunt her trim figure.
