It’s official! The Great British Bake Off is back on our screens.

Yep. We’ve now got weeks of cakes, biscuits, tarts and, er, soggy bottoms ahead of us. And we can’t wait.

Last night’s episode settled us in nicely, with the bakers first showing off their skills by creating drizzle cakes for their signatures.

The technical challenge saw them attempt Jaffa Cakes and their showstoppers were mirror glazed cakes.

Unfortunately, it was Pastor Lee who was the first to go. However, City boy Selasi had a little more luck.

He came first in the technical challenge, and judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood also seemed impressed with his citrus and spice drizzle cake and raspberry, slow and white chocolate mirror glaze cake.

It was Lee who was first to leave the Bake Off tent

But he had some stiff competition from others in the tent.

It actually ended up being garden designer Jane who walked away with the Star Baker accolade, after being praised for her lemon and poppy seed drizzle cake and chocolate orange mirror glaze cake.

Now, we all know how passionate the British public get about GBBO – and some people were not happy with this decision.

They felt Selasi, 30, had been ‘robbed’, with Tweets including: ‘Jane should never have got star baker, justice for Selasi please,’ ‘Still annoyed that Selasi didn’t get star baker #GBBO,’ and: ‘Tbh, Selasi deserved star baker [sic].’

Some have even named him an early favourite to lift the trophy. One wrote: ‘If you didn’t back Selasi at 12/1 you’re probably feeling pretty silly #gbbo,’ while another said: ‘Selasi to go all the way.’
