After the new pictures have been released, and Emma Watson has spilled some secrets about Belle, a new trailer has arrived...
UPDATE 1/2/17: It’s here! The final trailer is finally here and we are so excited.
A duet between Ariana Grande and John Legend is the standout surprise of the movie, and with only a month a half to go until the release, we’re even more excited than before. Read on for more about the film…
14/11/16: Thanks to some new visuals, excitement for the new Beauty and the Beast movie is building.
And now, thanks to the folks at Disney, we have a new trailer…
We couldn’t think of anyone better to play Beauty and the Beast‘s Belle. Emma Watson has the signature brunette locks, is beautiful (which is the meaning of Belle’s name, after all) and has that strong, independent thing going on.
Disney’s 1991 cartoon version of the classic fairytale showed its leading lady to be a bit of an outcast, due to her ahead-of-the-time attitude. Refusing to conform to the ‘norms’ of her 19th century French village, Belle loved to read about far away lands, expand her knowledge and, thankfully, refused to settle down and marry just for the sake of it.
We mean, Gaston? Ugh. We’d definitely swipe left.
Of course, Emma Watson herself is a powerful feminist spokesperson, backing the HeForShe campaign and taking her role as a UN Goodwill Ambassador For Women very seriously.
And it seems that the actress wanted to bring Belle’s character even more into the present, putting her own feminist twist on the live action remake.
Opening up to EW, the 26-year-old revealed that she asked Disney if she could tweak her character.
Emma explained, ‘In the animated movie, it’s her father who is the inventor, and we actually co-opted that for Belle.
‘I was like, “Well, there was never very much information or detail at the beginning of the story as to why Belle didn’t fit in, other than she liked books. Also what is she doing with her time?”’

So, how did she make her mark?
‘So, we created a backstory for her, which was that she had invented a kind of washing machine, so that, instead of doing laundry, she could sit and use that time to read instead. So, yeah, we made Belle an inventor,’ she continued.
If we haven’t made it clear enough already, we simply CANNOT WAIT to see this film.
