Viewers have noted something interesting about the 18-year-old singer's version of Britney Spears' Toxic...
We’re a teeny bit in awe of Emily Middlemas on The X Factor.
The Scottish singer, 18, has nailed pretty much every one of her performances so far, and coolly dealt with the elimination of her boyfriend Ryan Lawrie last week.
So we’re a little surprised to hear that she was accused of ‘stealing’ her version of Britney Spears’ Toxic on Saturday night’s show.
Emily impressed fans with her acoustic rendition and ukulele playing, after having the tune chosen by judge Louis Walsh as part of his ‘Louis Loves’-themed week.
However, some drew comparisons between Emily and The Voice USA contestant Melanie Martinez.
Back in 2012, Melanie’s version of the song led mentors Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green to hit their buzzers.
She ended up on Adam’s team but was eventually voted out in the sixth week of the show.

Tweets included: ‘I love u Emily Middlemas but you’ve fully copied Melanie Martinez so pls pls pls do not say u added ur ‘original’ twist to this song,’ and: ‘Emily middlemas’ toxic last night does sound awfully familiar to another singing competition audition I’ve heard.. cough Melanie cough [sic].’
Hmm. We’re sure this wasn’t a deliberate move on Emily’s part, but whatever the case, she still managed to wow viewers.
She was voted through to next week’s semi-finals, alongside Matt Terry, 5 After Midnight and Saara Aalto.
The teen is clearly ecstatic, Tweeting last night: ‘I want to say a massive thank you to all of you guys. This wouldn’t have been possible without all your support and votes. SEMI FINALS BABY🎉.’
Aw. Congratulations, lady!
