Ellie Goulding is one pop star we need to be listening to right now, because the British singer has opened up about stripping off in showbusiness and quashed a fair few assumptions.
In a brand new interview with The Sunday Times, the 27-year-old was questioned about her style transformation – from cute, covered-up pop star to gorgeous pin-up who’s not afraid to put her body on display – and whether she believes flashing a little more flesh has helped catapult her to stardom.
“That would never ever come into it,” said Ellie, who defended her behind-the-scenes team, as well as her own strength of character.
“My management would never force me to do anything, because they know I’m a really strong-minded person. I’ve never been an artist to say ‘OK, I’ll wear that or I’ll wear less’.”
The leggy blonde has notably shed her girl-next-door image, reworking herself into a super-sassy pop icon and has raised a few eyebrows with fashion choices of late, but Ellie insists it’s not her slinky new image that’s bagged her two number one albums and countless fans.
“It’s a myth that women just have to take their clothes off now to do well.”
Also stepping to celeb pal Miley Cyrus‘ defence, the Burn singer spilled on what it was really like seeing the ultimate twerker in action last year, revealing: “I was there at the V&As and it wasn’t half as bad or controversial as everyone made out. I was enjoying it.”
So, not only has this girl got her celeb friends’ backs, but also pretty much every woman in the music ‘biz’s. Next time we need some advice or a little pick-me-up, we’re coming to you Ms Goulding…
