Ella Henderson: ‘Simon Cowell Texts Me All The Time’

Ella Henderson walked out onto that X Factor stage in 2012 and suddenly, we just knew we were looking at a future star. At 16 years old, belting out a hit she had written herself, it was clear from the goose pimples up and down our spine, that this lady was the next big thing. And we were right.

Fast forward three years and at only 19-years-old Ella has had a chart-topping album and three top 20 singles under her belt, including her smash hit which stayed at number one for a whopping eight weeks.

Known for her big hair (‘Mermaids are my inspiration’ she reveals), and even bigger voice, it’s no surprise that she has drawn comparisons with Adele  – who has raved about Ella’s amazing vocals. But when caught up with Ella to celebrate her collaboration with Batiste Dry Shampoo, we were pleased to discover that the comparisons aren’t just down to shared talent. Like Adele, Ella is immediately warm and likeable too. Dressed in a chic black jumpsuit, curled up on a couch in London’s swanky Sanderson Hotel, she dishes some insider showbiz goss, her high street fashion secrets and what makes her happy…

On Industry Pressure:

‘There’s always some sense of pressure in this job.  But I have to just let that go because [otherwise] I’m never going to enjoy what I do.’

On Designing Her Own Batiste Dry Shampoo:

‘It has hints of vanilla, coconut and it’s very sweet but quite sophisticated at the same time.’

On New Track, Mirror Man:

‘[It’s about] somebody who loves themselves before they can love anyone else, but in the most selfish and self-centred way.’
