EastEnders fans seem pretty confused at the moment.
After the heartbreaking storyline which saw Peggy Mitchell’s final moments on the square (cry face), viewers have been left pondering why there’s been no mention of a funeral since. Sure enough, it has been over a month…
Well, that was until last night, at least, which finally touched on the topic, showing resident undertaker Les Coker talking through the details with Sharon, and sisters Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell.
But fans of the long-standing soap still took to social media to question why it had taken so long, with many believing that they’d ‘forgotten’ about the show’s beloved matriarch.
One tweeted: ‘Blimey, had completely forgotten about Peggy dying. And from the sounds of it so had they… #EastEnders @bbceastenders.’
Another took to the social media site to write: ‘They are finally talking about Peggy’s funeral… I was beginning to think Aunt Babe had her stored in the Queen Vic freezer #EastEnders’.
And it seems like A LOT has happened on the square since Peggy’s death, with one fan complaining, ‘Bobby’s attacked Jane, confessed to murder, been refused bail, been sentenced – and poor Peggy’s still not been buried #EastEnders’.
Back in May, we watched the poignant scenes which saw the much-loved character taking an overdose, having recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
In her emotional final moments, the star explained, ‘I’m being eaten alive and it hurts and I can’t wait.
‘I don’t want that to be me, I don’t want to be that little old lady in the bed, with people saying: “Remember her? Peggy Mitchell? She’s all skin and bones.”‘

She added: ‘I will go as I have lived. Straight back, head high, like a queen.’
There’s no denying that Barbara Windsor is royalty in soap land.
So we have no doubt that her on-screen send-off will be a fitting one…
