The 32-year-old singer shared the quote: ‘Girls compete with each other, women empower one another,’ on her page last night, writing a passionate rant beside it.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini shared this quote yesterday

She said: ‘It can be so hard at times being a girl, for sooo many reasons! But we don’t have to make it harder for each other.. Why do we still feel the need to do that ?? I don’t understand it [sic].

‘I have always been a Girls girl, and love other strong women. That is why I surround myself with them, and that is why I try to empower others.

‘Trying to pull another person down, only speaks volumes about your character.! And not a thing about theirs.. There’s nothing more powerful or beautiful than an inspiring, strong women that you can look up to or turn to… Be one!!!’

But why did she feel the need to get this sentiment across? Well, Cheryl didn’t give an explanation as to why this thought was on her mind at the time.

However, many have speculated that it could have had something to do with the cruel messages she’s received since confirming her relationship with One Direction’s Liam Payne earlier this month.

As one follower wrote: ‘PREACH! Some of the comments I’ve read on here have been horrific, deplorable, vile! Crack on girl, wishing you every happiness #lifeisshort.’

Since news of Chezza and 22-year-old Liam’s romance emerged, she’s had to deal with spiteful slurs such as: ‘Stay away from Liam,’ ‘If you hurt my baby liam, ill break your face,’ and ‘Everyones laughing at cheryl because shes embarrassing and pathetic.’

It’s safe to say, this is NOT okay. Keep rising above it, lady.
