Days after Louis Tomlinson's mum lost her battle with leukaemia, his ex shared a photo of herself laughing
Saturday night was incredibly emotional for Louis Tomlinson.
The 24-year-old appeared on The X Factor to perform his new single Just Hold On with collaborator Steve Aoki, in tribute to his late mother Johannah Deakin.
Johannah lost her battle with leukaemia last Wednesday, aged 43.
Before debuting the track, Louis had Tweeted: ‘All the support has been incredible! Let’s do this together tonight.’
But understandably, it took a lot of strength for the One Direction singer to take to the stage. He later wrote: ‘That was harder than I ever imagined. I want to thank everyone around me and all of the amazing fans out there that made that so special!
‘Feeling so much love around me and my family . Mum would have been so f***ing proud ( sorry for swearing mum 😝 ) love you !
‘Also @steveaoki , you have been such a rock and inspiration throughout this ! Pure talent and a real gent !’
It’s safe to say Louis did amazingly, and Just Hold On is now #1 on the iTunes chart.
The One Direction singer has received support from fans and friends alike since the heartbreaking news was announced on Friday, and his bandmates Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Niall Horan watched him from the wings during his X Factor moment.
A source tells MailOnline: ‘They all were backstage with him supporting him. It was a lovely moment – and shows the unity of 1D.
‘It was a lovely touching moment backstage and they all came to support Louis during a horrible time. Niall even flew back from New York.’
Zayn Malik and Liam’s girlfriend Cheryl both sent their condolences via Twitter, while his ex-girlfriend Briana Jungwirth has spoken out on Instagram.
Briana – who shares son Freddie with Louis – wrote the emotional message: ‘My heart aches. Every time I look at Freddie I see you in him Jay. I will always remember the times we shared and talks we had.
‘I looked up to you and sadly only knowing you for a short time, I aspired to be just like you in a mother to Freddie.
‘I promise to share with him all of what I know of you including all of your beautiful attributes. We both loved you very much. You’ll always stay close forever in our hearts.’
However, Briana ended up coming under fire for an image she shared a day later. It was a photo of herself, and showed her giggling as she posed in front of Christmas lights.
Upset Directioners commented: ‘This isn’t the time to be posting pics of yourself, for god’s sake,’ and: ‘Posting irrelevant s*** when the father of your child just lost a loved one. Okay!’
Hmm. While Briana’s upload may have been a teeny bit mistimed, we really don’t think arguing on social media is going to help anyone.
We’re sending our love to the whole family at this difficult time.
