Abbey Clancy is to make her return to Britain’s Next Top Model, 10 years after appearing as a contestant. The Liverpudlian model, 29 is set to be head judge when the show returns to our screens next year.
Abbey, just 20 at the time, was runner-up in the contest in 2006, losing out to Lianna Fowler at the last hurdle. She was criticized by the other contestants for her WAG image, as she appeared shortly after she’d started dating her now-husband, footballer Peter Crouch. Definitely having the last laugh, Abbey has a wealth of fashion credits under her waist belt, including shoots in Esquire, LOVE, and Sports Illustrated, andhas a gorgeous family in Peter and their two daughters, Sophia, 4, and Liberty, 2 months.
Abbey will be deciding the fate of aspiring models alongside famous male model and actor Paul Sculfor – who once dated Cameron Diaz, prestigious fashion critic Hilary Alexander OBE and hairstylist Nicky Johnston.
Speaking about the amazing gig, she said, ‘Britain’s Next Top Model is a show very close to my heart as it’s where I started my career so I am thrilled to be returning as head judge.
‘We have an incredible team working on this series and I can’t wait to bring my own spin to the show. Lifetime viewers should expect more drama and style than ever before, and the girls better be ready to bring their A game!’
The show, based on the American version which was hosted by the inimitable Tyra Banks, premiered in 2005 on Sky Living and was changed to ‘Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model’ for three series’ while Elle Macpherson was the host. It’s now gone back to its original name, and will be showing on Lifetime next September, so plenty of time to practise your smise…
