If you find it hard to find anything else apart from your job or work to update your friends about when you meet up, then perhaps it’s time to re-evaluate your work-life balance.
Although it’s good to be passionate and work hard at what you do, it’s just as important to take time away from it and here are some ways you can start living your life again.
1. Don’t stay late every evening
There are times when you need to stay longer than your hours to finish something you’re working on or meet deadlines. But it’s called ‘quittin’ time’ for a reason, so don’t make a habit of it. Not only is it eating into your own personal time, but it can cause you to be more unproductive throughout the day if you think you can just stay later to finish your work. Be strict with yourself and how you use your time and you’ll be surprised what you can get done in just an hour.
With everyone’s phone linked up to their emails these days, it’s easy to be contactable by others. So even when you’re out of the office, you’re not really. Checking your email and messages at home after you’ve finished work is easily done, but make a habit of leaving your work at work and truly switching off. Most messages can be dealt with the next day, so keep your hands off your email until then!
3. Plan your evenings
It’s easy to get home from work and just want to lounge on the sofa and watch TV or put on a film. And while it’s good to do that sometimes, make sure you make the most of your own time and organise things to do. Whether that’s some drinks, a gig or just a friend’s house – treat your evenings and weekends like a holiday!
