Smell yourself awake: Is this the new way to wake up?

If you’re sick and tired of the shrill sound of your alarm every morning, then this could be the alternative for you. A new alarm takes away the harsh sounds that invade your pleasant sleeps and replaces them with scents.

French entrepreneur Guillaume Rolland has created Sensor Wake, an alarm clock that emits some of our favourite smells, giving users a gentler start to the day. Scents range from coffee to croissants, or if it’s too early to think about food, there is the smell of freshly cut grass or the seaside. Weirdly you can choose the smell of money, which I suppose could work as a motivator for the working day…

All you have to do is insert your preferred scent (in the form of a cartridge) into the clock, set the alarm as you normally would, and then have sweet dreams. In the morning the clock will emit the scent for up to 10 minutes, filling your room with the sweet smell of cash (or a croissant).

The project has launched a Kickstarter page to get it off the ground, so if you fancy waking up to the smell of the sea every morning, then this is the one for you.

Now what?
